Glamour
Glamour is the raw power of Dreams. It is what gives the Fae their
sustenance. It is infinitely malleable, and can be shaped into tools, weapons, or even creatures. Glamour is creativity in its purest form. It comes from the Dreaming itself, the wellspring of all true artistry, and is in very short supply on Earth.
The Fae need Glamour to continue their fae existences, else they fall to forgetting their true nature. To this end, changelings often cultivate mortal artists and inspire them to new heights of creativity. When a mortal artist creates something that significantly pushes her art form forward, she may, just for a moment, touch the Dreaming itself. But through this touch, Glamour enters the world, just a drop at a time. These drops may be meager rations, but they are all the fae have. This touch of the Dreaming is called Epiphany.
There are four means of achieving Epiphany:
Reverie
When a Changeling inspires an artist into touching the Dreaming, it is referred to as Reverie. Reverie can take many forms; inspiring an artist is the most common, but encouraging children to exercise their imaginations in play can also be considered Reverie, as can fostering trust or "playing Cupid", i.e. inspiring love. The rush of emotion and, above all, hope is a gift from the Dreaming itself, and in return, the changeling can reap the Glamour that floods into the world. Reverie can take a long time to foster, but is does not exhaust the mortal Dreamer. It can be reaped time and again without fear.
Rapture
Changelings are not the pure Fae; they have their mortal halves as well, and these mortal halves can become inspired like any other mortal. Easily the most difficult means to achieve Epiphany, it can also be the most rewarding. The changeling must labor over her creation, sometimes for months or even years, and must significantly advance the chosen art form. When the great work is complete, sometimes, with talent and luck, the changeling can touch the Dreaming herself. Glamour floods her, filling her with the ecstasy of pure hope found in the Dreaming.
Ravaging
The Glamour in Dreamers can be forced out with pain and despair, and any changeling in the immediate vicinity can take this Glamour for themselves. To fill a Dreamer with Banality and hopelessness for the specific purpose of gathering up the Glamour forced out is referred to as Ravaging, and is forbidden in many Fae courts. The despair can permanently damage the Dreamer, severing her connection to the Dreaming and leaving her unable to create art or ever usher in Glamour again. The Glamour this brings in is tinged with pain and despair, but it is also quick and easy. It takes no preparation, after all, to hit a child and tell her there is no Santa Claus.
Rhapsody
A Changeling can imbue a mortal with a bit of Glamour, fueling already-present inspiration to a fever pitch and causing the Dreamer to burn like a Roman candle, working day and night, often forgoing sleep and food and other necessities, until the completion of a truly magnificent example of her art, her magnum opus. This is the last work she will ever create; the connection to the Dreaming is severed forever, leaving the former Dreamer an empty shell, often with nothing to live for. Suicide frequently follows Rhapsody, and even if the former Dreamer overcomes the pain, rage, and hate, she can never usher in Glamour again and is filled with Banality, making her a danger to the Fae. As a final insult to the former artist, the great work must then be destroyed to release the Glamour. Rhapsody is richly rewarding, but it comes with a dear price. It is forbidden by nearly all courts of the Fae.
