I am unable to fall asleep tonight. A feeling of uneasiness is rapidly growing within me, and I am unsure of who to turn to for help in this matter. I have not seen Va'lis since the night in Aegis when Eban drew a sword on me. He had made it clear, that in his typical mad dog fashion he planned to hunt down Val, and mad veiled threats towards anyone who stood in his way.
His actions do not surprise me, well not really. Eban has been this way for all the years I have known him. During his time with us in Umbra, he was looking for a fight. He saw any slight as an excuse to draw his blade on another. This not only endangered those around him, but also may have been a portent to his being drawn to the Nox.
It was never camaraderie, service or honor Eban sought. He hungered for power, and would do anything, sacrifice anyone to attain it. He was quick and easy prey for the dark forces of Intempesta Nox. He sought their company, laid with their women, and willingly gave over himself to become one of them. I sometimes wonder if that is cause for the friction between he and Va'lis. They are much alike, and yet so very different. Va'lis, for all I know him to be at least has a goodness about him.
There are those I know who would call me a fool. Tell me that one sucker is as bad as another. And yet, in all the years I have walked these lands, I have found that this is not always true. I do not pretend to understand the ways of the kindred, but I am very familiar with the evil inherent in men. Va'las and Eban walk a line of sorts. But in my eyes Va'lis has more times then naught come down on the softer side of that line, where as Eban has embedded that line wit blades and drenched it in blood. And Va'lis is missing now. Not a word from him since that night. None that I have asked have seen him.
Tomorrow, I will send out word to some that may be able to help me find out where he might have gotten off to, or perhaps ascertain his fate. I hold out some hope for his safety, but it is small hope. A man cannot live long with wild dogs baying outside his door. Bud did Va'lis pick up and move, or did something more sinister befall him? One thing is crystal clear to me. Eban has not been through Aegis searching for val since that night. And knowing the nature of that creature only increases the speed with which the uneasiness grows.
