All I ask is a tall ship, and a star to steer her by...
There was a calmness to be found aboard the ship. The gentle rolling of the bow as waves rushed to meet the shore seemed to lull his mind and set dreams, long held at bay, free. Standing before the mast of the ship, Celtic Tide, Aedon looked toward the Crimson Tide moored nearby. The past few days had been a flurry of activity as, along with those of the company, they readied their ships for the task ahead.
Both of the tall masted ships had been fitted with the best cannons available. And, with the help of Edith Tenpenny, Aedon believed they would not only be kept at the ready but that new devices and contraptions would be fitted to them increasing their range and accuracy. The crews and captains of each ship would set sail in the coming weeks to train and make ready.
Aneirin had already delivered some of the supplies that would be needed to make all this happen, and craftsmen were hard at work seeing to it that a full compliment of cannonballs would be stowed close at hand to each of the stations. Bandages, food, fruit and of course rum were in ample supply, and any powders and potions of healing would be stowed below deck keeping them safe and dry against the elements.
Walking toward the plank, Aedon took one last look across the deck, surveying the work underway. It had been a good days work, to be sure; but the weeks ahead held the bulk of what was to be done.
And, once the ships left port, the time ahead would bring them either great wealth and power, or final rest cradled in the arms of the sea.
